MAYOR BOLLWAGE JOINS ABG ACCESSORIES AS SOLAR PANELS ARE UNVEILED

ELIZABETH, NJ, July 27, 2011— Mayor J. Christian Bollwage joined Joseph Templer, President of ABG Accessories, which is also known as Elegant Headwear, as well as members of the business community, to celebrate the completion of their solar panel project at the company’s headquarters, located at 1000 Jefferson Avenue in Elizabeth.

The venture at the Elizabeth headquarters began in 2010 and includes more than 80,000 square feet of solar paneling, spanning across the headquarters’ roof.  ABG Accessories anticipates meeting its energy needs at its warehouse, expanded office and design suites through the power retained by the solar panels.

The company’s 250,000 square foot site has been stationed within the City of Elizabeth since 1994. Employing more than 120 individuals, ABG Accessories offers an array of diverse products including, but not limited to: hats, accessories and shoes.

“I congratulate ABG Accessories on this endeavor, as they demonstrate how innovative, state-of-the-art technology combined with harnessing natural resources, can produce cost savings within our City,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, “creating a strong green foundation through the incorporation of energy efficient programs is paramount to our community and environmental success.”

With the inclusion of solar panels at their company site, ABG Accessories joins several of Elizabeth’s businesses, who have chosen to implement this cost effective, environmentally conscious technology. Just last month, Jersey Gardens Mall unveiled a 4.8MW solar panel project, which will also result in significant savings. These efforts not only conserve resources, they also support the City’s ongoing Go Green initiatives, which include energy efficiency audits and the ultimate inclusion of solar panels on municipal buildings.

“We have attended numerous programs throughout the City of Elizabeth and were motivated by the Go Green advocacy,” said Gershon Mayer, CFO of ABG Accessories, “Mayor Bollwage truly inspired us to incorporate solar panels and reduce our carbon footprint.”

As a member of the Greater Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce and a true community partner, ABG Accessories has participated and provided support to numerous citywide programs. Their volunteerism, sponsorship as well as hat donations at National Night Out and the Tour de Elizabeth, which attracts nearly five hundred participants each year, contribute immensely to the success of these popular community events.

In addition to its local headquarters, ABG’s additional sites also include an impressive showroom in Manhattan, as well as international offices in China.
